Cape Town City have announced the acquisition of Kamohelo Mokotjo, as the club make their intentions clear about the upcoming season.
The 33-year-old joins the club from Sekhukhune United as a free agent.
“Cape Town City is delighted to confirm the acquisition of South African midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo,” the club said on social media post.
Mokotjo made 50 appearances for since joining the club in January 2023 following his exit from MLS side Cincinnati.
He brings with him the knowledge from spells in the Netherlands with Feyenoord, PEC Zwolle, FC Twente, and England with Brentford
Mokotjo, considered one of the best midfielders of his generation in South Africa, won the last of his 24 Bafana Bafana caps in 2020 and it will forever remain a mystery why he did not play more.
City have already unveiled Angolan midfielder Carlinhos, Hasheem Domingo from Raja Casablanca in Morocco, Kayden Francis from Chippa United, Fortune Makaringe from Orlando Pirates, Namibian international Prince Tjiueza, goalkeeper Elson Sithole from Magesi FC, defender Sibusiso Ziba from JDR Stars and youngster Lefa Aphane from Tzaneen United.
The club have sold Brice Ambina to Valerenga in Norway and released another Angolan, Jo Paciencia, Khanya Leshabela, Relebogile Mokhuoane and back-up goalkeeper Bongani Mpandle.
Thabiso Kutumela’s loan spell came to an end and he returned to Mamelodi Sundowns, where he was subsequently released and is currently a free agent.
