Eskom announced that it will continue implementing stage 2 load shedding overnight and into Wednesday.
South Africans had to contend with stage 4 load shedding for most of the day on Tuesday. Stage 4 was lowered to stage 3 at 8pm, and stage 3 was downgraded to stage 2 at 9pm.
Stage 2 cuts – which allow for up to 2 000MW to be shed from the national grid – are expected to last until 11pm on Wednesday.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to meet with Eskom’s leadership on Wednesday after he was urged to cut his trip short by senior ANC officials.
The ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) met this past weekend and Eskom’s dire state formed part of the agenda.
Ramaphosa was Egypt to attend the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development Conference, which was scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
Meanwhile several mining companies in South Africa have had to temporarily shut down domestic operations after receiving requests by Eskom to reduce their load on the national power system.
The Minerals Council of South Africa, which represents 90% of the companies in SA’s industry, confirmed that all of its member mines had been alerted by Eskom to reduce their loads by 20%.
