The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Federal Council meeting taking place over the weekend will be crucial in mapping the way forward for a party at a crossroads.
The election is expected to be a two-horse race between former party leader Helen Zille and Athol Trollip, with Mike Waters and Thomas Walters also in the running.
According to sources Waters, who is seen as a close ally of Zille is expected to withdraw from the race to avoid splitting her votes.
Meanwhile Zille is seen to represent the liberal bloc in the DA, And Trollip is seen to be more in favour of a progressive outlook that seeks to embrace their vision of one South Africa for all.
