Japan top Pool A and will face South Africa in the last eight.

FULL-TIME: JAPAN 28-21 SCOTLAND

Japan are through to the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals for the first time.

The game was won just after half-time, when Japan scored their fourth try to secure a bonus point and, barring a miracle, the win.

Scotland never recovered from their opponents’ super-charged first half and while tries from props WP Nel and Zander Fagerson gave them a sniff of victory, they were never within touching distance of the eight-point win they needed.
