Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United will do battle in the semifinals of the 2019 Telkom Knockout this afternoon at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
Kick-off is at 3:00pm.
Chiefs earned their place in the final four of this season’s competition by overcoming arch rivals Orlando Pirates in the quarterfinals. The teams drew 2-2 after extra time before the Amakhosi better held their nerve in the penalty shootout.
Maritzburg also secured their place in the semifinals thanks to a shootout triumph. They were held 1-1 by Highlands Park at home after extra time in the previous round, before advancing on penalties.
The Team of Choice has never won the Telkom Knockout, nor reached the final, while last season they got as far as the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile Mamelodi Sundowns edged out Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-1 in the 2019 Telkom Knockout Cup semifinal match at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, Durban, on Saturday afternoon.
The victory saw the three-time champions advance to the final where they will face either Kaizer Chiefs or Maritzburg United on 14 December, while Abafana Bes’thende bowed out of the tournament.
