Joburg audiences are in for a treat this April, with UJ Arts & Culture’s first-ever UJ Weekend of Stand-up, set to take place at the UJ Arts Centre on the Kingsway Campus in Auckland Park.
A division of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA), UJ Arts & Culture partners with GOLIATH AND GOLIATH to bring the biggest and newest names in comedy to the University of Johannesburg on Friday, 3 and Saturday, 4 April.
A comedy marathon of 25 of South Africa’s hottest up-and-coming comedians will take to the stage on Friday 3 April, each with a five-minute slot to prove their mettle. This rapid-fire show includes the likes of Gilli Apter, Lindy Johnson, Lihle Msimang, Tsitsi Chiumya, Eric Jansen, Bongani Dube, Q Dube, Kedibone Mulaudzi, Gino Fernandez, Wazi Kunene, Vuyi Xaba, Punch Gasela, Bexta, Isuru Jenasena, Andrew Mac, Gavin Kelly, Cobus Van Rensburg, Thabiso Mhlongo, Abuti Lolo and Claudine Ullman and many more!
On Saturday 4 April, UJ Arts & Culture is excited to host South Africa’s best friends of comedy, the multi-award-winning comedians Jason, Donovan and Nicholas Goliath who will headline the UJ Weekend of Stand-up in this one-night-only performance. One of the most formidable comedy acts in the country, GOLIATH AND GOLIATH deliver a repertoire of on-point material that will leave audiences in stitches.
Never forgetting the importance of nurturing young talent, UJ Arts & Culture’s Arts Academy stand-up students will be mentored by GOLIATH AND GOLIATH in a series of Master Classes to work on their comedic wit, charm and delivery.
“Creating opportunities for our students to interact with and learn from professionals is very close to our hearts and these kinds of engagements often lead to employment opportunities,” says Karabo Mtshali producer and Operations Manager at UJ Arts & Culture. “The outcome of this engagement, however, will see the student with the most promise put their new-found skills to the test by joining the comedy marathon with a five-minute performance on Friday, 3 April,” she adds.
