Head coach Gregor Townsend says Scotland’s forwards “stood up well” against a powerful Georgia pack in their 48-7 win at Murrayfield.

Hooker Fraser Brown scored twice from driving mauls, with his replacement Stuart McInally adding one of his own.

Flanker Hamish Watson also scored a try, adding to efforts by Duhan Van der Merwe, Blair Kinghorn, and two from Darcy Graham.

“It was certainly a good work out for the forwards,” Townsend said.

“We knew the Georgians pride themselves on the scrum and the maul and given the conditions underfoot we thought there would be a lot of scrums.

“I thought we stood up well there, we were dominant in the scrum and and certainly in the maul. There are certainly areas to improve on, but it’s a first game for a while.”

Finn Russell’s return from the bench capped a positive night for Scotland.

The fly-half came on midway into the second-half for his first appearance for a year after he played no part in the Six Nations for a breach of team protocol which led to a falling-out with Townsend.

Next up for Scotland is their final match of the interrupted Six Nations against Wales in Llanelli a week on Saturday, before they commence their autumn Nations Cup campaign.
