Soweto Marathon Officially sold out at 40 000 entrants and is now proudly South Africa’s biggest one day road running event.

Having attracted an additional 10 000 runners from 2018, the People’s Race is truly an event to be proud of involving 55 local running clubs in their volunteering process and job creation.

Soweto Marathon Trust Chairman Sello Khunou is delighted to draw the curtain on the 2019 entry intake process, and hold the “sold out” sign high;

“26 years ago we started A Movement Greater than Yourself. Today we’re delighted to have reached our internal team goal of sold out and promise each and every runner a race day that is smooth, challenging, fair and thoroughly enjoyable for both the athlete and supporter.”

The half marathon shows the greatest increase when compared to the 11 000 entrants in 2018, totalling 18 000 for race day come 3 November, with Race Director Danny Blumberg confirming that everything is well on track for another superb race;

“The race office and technical team will step up our efforts now as we aim to create a safe and enjoyable experience once again. Our recipe will not change much as the repeat entries year on year give great comfort that the people love this race: it truly is an event by the people, for the people and I absolutely cannot wait for the shotgun start come 05h30 on Sunday 3 November!”

Soweto Marathon Trust (SMT) would like to thank our sponsors and partners, Old Mutual, Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, City of Joburg, Rand Water, Sowetan, among others, for their contribution, support and participation
