Liverpool winger,Mohamed Salah, expressed his pride in how Egyptian teams performed in continental competitions this season, whether in the Champions League or Confederation Cup.
Both Al Ahly and Zamalek have booked their spots in the CAF Champions League final after beating Wydad Casablanca and Raja Casablanca respectively in the semi-finals.
Now the stage is set for a historic final as it will be the first team both Egyptian powerhouses face each other in this stage of the competition.
Salah explained how the Cairo giants reaching the final will affect the atmosphere surrounding the national team camp.
"It’s something great, I’m very proud of what they achieved. I followed both of their semi-final games and I was rooting for both of them to reach the final," Salah told beINSports TV.
"I don’t want there to be any tension between the players before or during the national team camp.
"I’m really happy for both teams and I’m sure that the better side will lift the trophy. This will benefit the national team as well as the country.
"We have Al Ahly and Zamalek in the Champions League final and we had Pyramids in the Confederation Cup final. The fact that Egyptian teams are performing well will 100% benefit the national team,” he concluded.
Following the semi-finals,each team has six players in the national team by Hossam El-Badry,completing the squad before the matches against Togo.
Egypt were drawn in Group G of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with Kenya, Togo, and Comoros.
They are set to resume the qualifiers next month as they face Togo twice, with the first encounter taking place on November 9th before they meet again eight days later.
