Bafana Bafana will face Mali in the 2019 edition of Nelson Mandela Challenge scheduled to be played at the Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth,on the 13th of October 2019.
Kickoff is at 15h00.
Tickets will be on sale for R40 for adults and R20 for children under the age of 12 years. They can be purchased at Computicket, Checkers, and Shoprite from Friday, 27 September.
SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, made the announcement in his hometown of Port Elizabeth.
“We are very grateful for this great gesture by the Nelson Mandela Bay to host this important match which we use annually in honour of our greatest statesman, Tata Nelson Mandela. It could not have been more fitting for the Nelson Mandela Bay to host this year’s Nelson Mandela Challenge match and on behalf of SAFA and the entire football fraternity, I would like to say thank you once again,” said Dr Jordaan.
He added that SAFA will donate R1,5 million towards the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund as children were the closest thing to Madiba.
Ms. Sibongile Mkhabela, Chief Executive Officer of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, has welcomed the gesture and called on the people of Nelson Mandela Bay to support this great initiative by filling up the stadium.
The West Africans are ranked 11th on the continent – two places above South Africa, but 57th in the World compared to Bafana Bafana’s 71.
