Golden Arrows secured a 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates in a PSL match on Tuesday evening.
Pirates made four changes from the win over Kaizer Chiefs, as Innocent Maela and Paseka Mako were recalled while Siphesihle Ndlovu earned a rare start alongside youngster Azola Tshobeni.
The Buccaneers felt the pressure in the tenth minute as Knox Mutizwa had space to curl a strike at goal but he was denied by shot-stopper Richard Ofori.
However, the Soweto giants sprung to life closer to the half-hour mark as a looping header from Paseka Mako off a cross from the right-side by Deon Hotto forced a save from Sifiso Mlungwana.
Arrows took a lead in the last five minutes of the first half through a low finish from a tight angle by Pule Mmodi with the Buccaneers caught napping from a quick throw-in.
Pirates were given a penalty 15 minutes after the restart when Lindokuhle Mtshali handled in the area, but Thembinkosi Lorch failed to work Mlungwana with a wayward strike from the spot.
It was duly punished midway in the second half when Mmodi ran in behind the defence from a ball over the top to beat Ofori with a low finish for his brace.
Pirates struggled to get going, with Mhango left frustrated up top as Arrows went on to claim victory to leapforg Bucs into fourth spot.
Meanwhile AmaZulu FC claimed a thrilling 4-3 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in a 2020-21 DStv Premiership match at Jonsson Kings Park Stadium in Durban on Tuesday afternoon.
Usuthu remain seventh on the league standings as a result - but just a point behind sixth-placed Lamontville Golden Arrows who are in action at home to Orlando Pirates this evening, while Phunya Sele Sele continue to occupy 12th spot.
