Swallows FC remain undefeated thanks to a 1-1 draw at Cape Town City on Sunday.
The clash at Cape Town Stadium saw the Birds, who ended the game with 10 men, register a fifth successive draw and extend their unbeaten start to the season to 16 matches, while the Citizens have now gone four league outings without a win. Swallows remain in third place on 30 points – six adrift of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns – while City are seventh on 24 points.
Swallows looked the more dangerous team in the opening stages and duly claimed the lead in the 13th minute. Wide attacker Kgaogelo Sekgota cut inside from the right flank and scored with a left-footed shot from just outside the penalty area which beat City goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh at his near post.
The 20-minute mark saw City register their first effort on target – a tame header from Mduduzi Mdantsane which was easily saved by Thela Ngobeni – as they gradually began to gain a foothold in the game.
Just past the half-hour mark, the hosts were awarded a debatable penalty when Thabo Nodada appeared to tumble rather easily in a challenge with Njabulo Ngcobo. Mdantsane nonchalantly stroked home the spot-kick to make it 1-1 in the 33rd minute.
Ultimately, the teams settled for a 1-1 draw and a share of the spoils. Swallows will return to DStv Premiership action on Tuesday 2 March with a clash at TS Galaxy, while City will visit Chippa United the following day.
Meanwhile Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila have registered back-to-back wins for the first time in the DStv Premiership after defeating Stellenbosch FC 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Elsewhere Baroka FC claimed the bragging rights in their DStv Premiership Limpopo derby, defeating Black Leopards 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.
