Beating Liverpool would have been massive for Manchester United but it still felt as if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side produced a performance that can kick-start their season.
Of course United will be disappointed to concede an equaliser so late on having led for so long, but they should be pleased with the way they played in their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Tactically, Solskjaer got it absolutely spot on and to come out and play like that against a top-class team such as Liverpool should give his side lots of confidence.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: When you get teams doing something different to what they normally do then you know you have executed your plan. But then they still caused us problems second half and we struggled with possession and that was why we were tired."
Is it a turning point? "We do have a belief in these boys and the attitude and desire is there. The injured boys are on their way back and the atmosphere here was amazing. It was a proper Old Trafford night. We started on the front foot, it’s not always pretty but it’s about getting the results."
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: it is "a fact" that Manchester United always set up to defend against his side at Old Trafford.
Klopp's side needed a late Adam Lallana equaliser on Sunday to earn 1-1 draw against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, who are two points above the relegation zone.
The German has failed to record a single win in five visits to United.
"This year, last year, the year before, they just defend," he said.
"That's how it is. It is OK. It is no criticism. It is just a fact.
"When you think about Manchester United against Liverpool, you think both teams are trying like this. But it is not. We try."
Meanwhile Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was a television pundit at the match and he said Klopp's teams "have limitations against teams with low blocks".
"He [Klopp] didn't like the menu - he likes meat and he got fish," Mourinho told Sky Sports.
"United, with the limitations they have at the moment, played with five at the back, were solid and didn't give the chance of transition. Jurgen didn't like the menu.
