The Kwazulu- Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala said all provincial governments structures that incurred irregular and wasteful expenditure will be held accountable.
Auditor General Kimi Makwetu revealed that KZN incurred irregular expenditure of over R12 billion, the highest figure of all provinces and even national government.
He further revealed that irregular spending by national and provincial departments had soared by more than R10 billion – from R51 billion last year to R62.6 billion.
Makwetu released the 2018/19 national and provincial audit outcomes on Wednesday and mentioned that the audit results for these departments were disappointing.
In a statement, Zikalala said following the grim audit outcomes he had declared war on wasteful expenditure by government departments, including his own office.
Zikalala said investigations would be launched into all departments found to have misappropriated taxpayers' money.
