Gauteng MEC for Transport, Jacob Mamabolo is set to intervene after a taxi shooting this morning in Olievenhoutbosch, south of Tshwane that left one person dead and others injured.
Mamabolo said the police needed to provide clarity on the circumstances around the shooting, but it was clear that at least one taxi association from Alexandra was affected.
"We will be contacting the SAPS to establish the basic fact about what could possibly have happened here so that when we take action, we take action based on facts, even if it's preliminary facts," said Mamabolo.
He said this action could lead to closing down all taxi operations in the area, or banning a specific taxi association form operation there.
Mamabolo previously closed the taxi routes in Olievenhoutbosch with busses provided for members of the public.
However, the buses were threatened with violence.
"This taxi violence has reached proportions that are quite serious and that is why we appointed a retired judge to get to the bottom of this and conduct a proper investigation and help us to move forward on the matter," added Mamabolo.
