The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal is set to announce its decision on the fate of Mayor Zandile Gumede after a two-day provincial executive committee meeting in Durban.
According to the sources, the PEC used a damning report compiled by the Kwazulu-Natal Cogta Department after a comprehensive assessment of all provincial municipalities as the basis to clear out the eThekwini Executive.
But party's provincial spokesperson said he could not confirm nor deny the reports, adding that all would be revealed at the media briefing today.
Gumede, who was placed on special leave from the municipality, was arrested earlier this year in connection with what the Hawks believe was a dodgy multi-million rand waste removal tender, dating back to 2016.
She was released on R50,000 bail.
However the Msunduzi Municipality is without the mayoral executive council after Mayor Themba Njilo confirmed that the ANC provincial executive asked the entire council to step down.
