COVID-19 Update: South Africa's confirmed Covid-19 cases have risen to 5951,with 13 new deaths.

 

Health minister Zweli Mkhize announced that South Africa now has 5,951 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

This is an increase of 304 cases over the figures reported yesterday.

Mkhize also announced that there have been 13 more deaths attributed to the coronavirus,bringing the total number of deaths to 116.

Not all the new deaths were in the last 24 hours, though,He said.

"As we have undertook to only report fully verified deaths, we would like to indicate that there has been a delay in assessing and verifying some of those reports," said Mkhize.

People who died were from the Western Cape, Gauteng, KZN and the Eastern Cape. 

"We wish to express our condolences to the families of the deceased and salute the healthcare workers who treated the deceased patients."

The Western Cape still has the highest number of cases, with 2 507, followed by Gauteng with 1 507, and KZN with 1 006.

"The total number of tests conducted to date is 217,522, of which 9,992 were done in the last 24 hours. We are also pleased to announce the new figures for recoveries which stand at 2,382 as of 29 April 2020,"the statement read.
