Police Minister Bheki Cele has expressed his "shock and disgust"over the violent demonstration by a group of farmers outside the Senekal Magistrate’s Court in the Free State, which resulted in arson and vandalism.

Cele also questioned the demonstrators’ motives in "turning their anger towards the police".

"Police reports indicate that following the brief court appearance, around a hundred demonstrators, among them armed farmers, stormed into the court building demanding the suspects be handed over," the Police Ministry said in a statement.

A group of angered farmers tried to storm the cells which are holding the killers of young Free State farmer Brendin Horner.

The Senekal Magistrate’s Court saw scenes of anarchy, both outside and inside the premises, as angry locals torched a police van and damaged state property

Hundreds of farmers gathered outside the court in a show of support for Horner's family,He became the victim of a brutal farm murder last week. 

On Tuesday, as the two suspects made a brief court appearance, the angry crowd bayed for their blood and vowed to avenge Horner's murder themselves.

Sekwetje Mahlamba and Sekola Matlaletsa were arrested the following day in connection with the brutal attack.

Two gunshots were fired, court property destroyed and a police vehicle overturned and set alight by the angry farmers, who believe that the government is not doing enough to protect them.

 The farmers demanded the accused be handed over to them resulting in the clash.
