The Supreme Court of Appeal has denied CPS the opportunity to appeal a High Court ruling that it must return R316 million to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and ordered to pay the legal costs.

CPS approached the SCA in an effort to challenge the ruling by the high court in Pretoria, which ordered them to pay back the more than R316 million to SASSA that was irregularly paid in 2014.

Corruption Watch challenged the legality of the questionable payment to CPS.

Meanwhile, Sassa has welcomed the SCA’s judgment, ordering CPS to pay back over R300 million.
