Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Jesse Lingard will captain his young Manchester United team versus Astana today.
The 26-year-old has now been at United for 19 years and has expressed his pleasure at being given the responsibility.
“It’s a massive honour,” he told MUTV.
“I said at the start of the season I’d like to be more of a leader type of person, on and off the field. You know, being one of the most senior players in the squad.
”Now is the perfect time to show that.“
Solskjaer is set to name a United side that includes just four senior players: Lingard, Axel Tuanzebe, Luke Shaw and third choice goalkeeper Lee Grant.
Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, David de Gea and Harry Maguire are among the players that have been left at home.
