Six people were killed in an accident involving three cars near Wolmaransstad on Sunday, said the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management.

The department’s spokesperson, Charles Matlou, said the accident occurred around 19:00 on the Leeudoringstad to Makwassie road.

The victims include five women and a male taxi driver after a bakkie and a taxi collided head-on.

Another bakkie, following one of the vehicles, subsequently crashed into the cars.

“A group of women had hired a taxi to ferry them from Makwassie for a church service in Leeudoringstad when they met their untimely passing,” Matlou said.

The MEC, Wessels Morweng, urged road users to exercise caution and patience, especially when driving at night.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
