An earthquake occurred in Gauteng’s West Rand region and several parts of Johannesburg on Tuesday evening.
According to Volcano Discovery, “A light magnitude 3.2 earthquake hit 8.7 km (5.4 mi) away from Westonaria, Gauteng, 
South Africa in the evening of Tuesday, Feb 6, 2024 at 8.54 pm local time (Africa/Johannesburg GMT +2). “
“The quake had a very shallow depth of 5 km (3.1 mi) and was felt widely in the area.” it said.
There were no immediate reports of any damages or injuries and social media users took to several platforms to share their experiences.
The South African Council for Geoscience is yet to confirm the earthquake.
In January, the Council for Geoscience confirmed that an earthquake hit several parts of Johannesburg and the West Rand.
The council’s spokesperson, Mahlatse Mononela, said the quake struck on Tuesday at about 12:29 am.
“The earthquake registered a local magnitude of approximately 2.5 as recorded by the South African Seismograph Network (SANSN).
“The epicentre was located south of Johannesburg, approximately 3km north of Harmony Doornkop Gold Mine, “Mononela said.
