Police in Limpopo have confirmed four people have been shot dead in taxi-related violence in Zebediela outside Lebowakgomo.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning,
Police said the deceased are two taxi operators, a passenger and a passerby and more details will be released later.
Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani has condemned the incident.
“The shooting undermines efforts by both government and the taxi industry to create a peaceful and reliable public transport system for the public”, she said.
The MEC described the incident as a pure act of crime.
Early this month, three people were shot dead, among them a student, in an apparent taxi-related incident in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
In a separate incident, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) says all lanes of the N12 west were closed in Eldorado Park this morning, where there was an attempted Cash In Transit (CIT) heist near the Klipspruit Valley K43 road.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says no money was taken, but authorities are on the scene.
“Due to the crime scene and processing of the scene by the South African Police Services, the N12 west Freeway has to be closed off and motorist are urged to avoid and to use alternative routes,” said Fihla.
Motorists are urged to use the Golden Highway as an alternative route.
