Five people have been killed and 13 others injured, after a wall collapse in Ngcobo in the Dr AB Xuma local municipality in the Eastern Cape.
A further 13 people have been rushed to All Saints Hospital where they are being treated for various injuries.
The Department of Health has sent its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.
Health MEC Spokesperson, Mkhululi Ndamase, confirmed emergency medical services personnel and other rescue workers were busy with the search and rescue.
Ndamase said the Ngcobo building housed a hair salon and other businesses.
“We are shocked by the incident,” added Ndamase.
The mayor of the Chris Hani District Municipality, Lusanda Sizani, sent condolences to the affected families.
The municipality would have to launch an investigation into what caused the building to collapse, Sizani said.
This incident comes amidst the collapse of another building in George on Monday – where the bodies of at least 14 people have been found under the rubble.There are still 39 people unaccounted for.
