The former South African batter Gary Kirsten has stepped down as coach of Pakistan’s men’s limited-overs cricket teams six months after his appointment amid an ongoing power struggle with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Kirsten was appointed on a two-year contract in April.
Test coach Jason Gillespie will be in charge for the white-ball tour of Australia which starts next week.
“Jason Gillespie will coach the Pakistan men’s cricket team on next month’s white-ball tour of Australia after Gary Kirsten submitted his resignation, which was accepted, “the PCB said in a statement on X.
Kirsten is reported by ESPNCricinfo, to have had a strained relationship with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about selection issues.
The 56-year-old has previously coached India – guiding them to a 50-over World Cup win in 2011 – and his native South Africa as well stints with various T20 franchises including in the Indian Premier League.
Pakistan face Australia in three one-day internationals – starting on 4 November in Melbourne – before three T20 internationals.
