Vodacom’s Forensic supervisor, Pinky Vythilingam continued her testimony at the High Court in Pretoria where five men are on trial for the murder of footballer Senzo Meyiwa.
Vythilingam has been focusing on numbers that belong to some of those who were present at the Khumalo’s home.
Bongani Ntanzi, the man accused of being one of the intruders when Meyiwa was killed kept his eyes glued to Vythilingam on Thursday.
In focus was a number attributed to Ntanzi, which appeared to have been making multiple and sometimes lengthy phone calls to a number linked to his girlfriend.
This was during August and September 2020, while he was under arrest at the Pretoria north police station for his alleged involvement in Meyiwa’s murder.
According to Ntanzi, his phone was taken on his arrest and the cellphone that the state claims he was using to make calls and download pictures of guns- was not in his possession.
Vythilingam has told the court however that Ntanzi’s number made contact with ‘his girlfriend’s number every day between August and September 2020 while he was under arrest.
She had to cut her evidence short after accused number one Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, complained of a runny stomach.
Sibiya notified the court through his legal representative, Thulani Mngomezulu, that he has been dealing with the issue since morning and will not be able to attend court for an extended period of time.
“My lord, my instruction from accused number one is that he is not feeling well. He experienced a running stomach this morning. [The accused] indicated to me that he requests the matter to stand down. It will be adjourned to tomorrow, “said Mngomezulu.
Ronnie Sibanda, the state prosecutor leading Vythilingam’s testimony, agreed to the adjournment.
“My lord he said he is going to consult a nurse at the prison.”
Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng demanded proof. He stated that accused number one must bring a medical certificate from the doctor who will evaluate and medicate him. It must state what is wrong with him.
“Do nurses issue medical certificates? Sibanda or state prosecutor George Baloyi please write a letter to the professional who will be examining him to furnish him with a certificate. And because accused number one is not feeling well, court adjourns for tomorrow,” said Mokgoatlheng before he slammed his gavel.
Vythilingam was expected to continue with her testimony. It had narrowed down to all the people who were with the late Bafana Bafana star when he died on October 26, 2014.
