SA Police Services in Gauteng police have arrested six suspects in connection with the murder of 24-year-old Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs.

Fleurs promising soccer star was shot and killed in a hijacking at a petrol station in the northwest of Johannesburg a week ago.

He was in a red VW Golf 8 GTI at the petrol station on 14th Avenue, on the corner Hendrik Potgieter, when he was shot once in the upper body.

Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the suspects were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning by a team led by the police crime intelligence officers.

“The six suspects were traced and arrested in Slovoville, Soweto, in the early hours of Wednesday, while the vehicle that was already stripped was recovered on Monday.

“Police believe that the suspects are part of a syndicate that is responsible for car hijacking in Gauteng, and the search for more suspects is continuing.”

The suspects are expected to appear before the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The Premier Soccer League held a moment’s silence for the Chiefs defender at all DStv Premiership, Motsepe Foundation Championship and DStv Diski Challenge games this past weekend.
