AmaZulu Football Club mourns the sad passing of their former player and iconic figure, Joel Faya, who died on Friday after a short illness.
Between 1978 and 1992, Faya was a player for Amazulu. Over the years, he worked for the club in a variety of technical team capacities as well. He was 66 years old at the time of his passing.
Club chairman Sandile Zungu penned a tribute to the former player on X: “It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved club legend, Joel Faya, this morning.
“Faya’s contribution to our club as both a player and coach has been immense, and his impact on the team and our community will never be forgotten.
“Faya’s dedication, passion, and talent have left an indelible mark on our club’s history, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players and fans.
“His presence on and off the field will be deeply missed, and his spirit will always remain a part of our club.
“During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Joel Faya’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
“May his precious soul rest in perfect peace, and may his memory bring comfort and solace to all who mourn his loss.”
Faya was born in 1958 and his family settled in KwaMashu in 1962 in an area called eMaplangweni, now known as section B.
At AmaZulu F.C Faya played as an attacking winger on the right and starred alongside the likes of the late legendary Sugar Ray Xulu.
