A tremor has been recorded in Johannesburg.
Preliminary earthquake information published on the Council for Geoscience’s website, obtained from the South African National Seismograph Network, reflected that there was a 3.1 magnitude tremor on Tuesday at around 20:30.
The epicentre was in Randfontein.
However, the Council of Geoscience did not confirm the tremor or its magnitude at the time of publication. Its response will be added once received.
City of Johannesburg Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said that “no injuries or damages were reported through our Emergency Services Call Centre”.
“Residents are urged to be safe,” he added.
Mulaudzi said emergency teams remained on high alert overnight in case of incidents following the tremor.
