Real Madrid extended its record for the most Champions League titles (15), and they also also became only the second club to win the Champions League following winning all of its group stages games, while Spain extended its record as the nation with the most Champions League titles (20). When looking at individuals, Carlo Ancelotti increased his record for the most times winning the Champions League as a manager (5) while Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal & Nacho tied Paco Gento and they are now jointly holding the record for the most amount of times winning the Champions League as players (6).
The following records refer to both UEFA Champions League and European Cup:
CLUBS
- Real Madrid extended its record for the most Champions League titles – this is their 15th title – and they also extended Spain’s record for the most titles won with this being their 20th Champions league title
- Real Madrid tied the record of Bayern Munich and they now jointly hold the record for the most amount of times winning all of their group games – both of the teams have managed to do so 3 times; Real Madrid also became only the second club to win the Champions League following winning all of its group stages games (the first one to do so was Bayern Munich during the 2019-2020 season)
- Real Madrid extended its record for the most overall seasons appearances (54), appearances in the finals (18), appearances in the semi-finals (33), matches played (489), matches won (294), matches ending up in a draw (85), matches lost (110), goals scored (1075) and goals conceded (536)
- Real Madrid extended its record for the most knockout tie wins (116)
- Bayern Munich extended their record for the most consecutive wins in season-opening fixtures (20)
- Bayern Munich extended their record for the most undefeated matches (40) in the group stages as well as the record for the most consecutive wins in the group stages (17), however, the latter record ended with a draw match against FC Copenhagen
- Bayern Munich extended its record for the most consecutive undefeated away matches (20) as well as wins in the group stages (9)
INDIVIDUALS
(AFTER THE FINAL:)
- Carlo Ancelotti increased his record for the most times winning the Champions League as a manager – he has now won 5 times (2003 & 2007 – AC Milan and 2014, 2022 & 2024 – Real Madrid); Ancelotti also tied Bob Paisley (Liverpool) and Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid) for the most times winning with one team as a manager (3)
- Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) and Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) facing each other in the final made it the first occurrence of two English players facing each other in the Champions League final while both playing for non-English sides
- Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal & Nacho tied Paco Gento and they are now jointly holding the record for the most amount of times winning the Champions League since all of them have managed to do so 6 times in total
- Vinícius Júnior (Real Madrid) tied Lionel Messi as the player with the most goals and assists in the Champions League before turning 24 (22 in total – 11 goals & 11 assists; Júnior is currently 23)
(THROUGHOUT THE 2023-24 SEASON:)
- Sergio Ramos (Sevilla) and Thomas Müller (Bayern Munich) climbed up in the rankings for the most overall appearances in Champions League matches – Ramos is in joint 8th place with 142 appearances (+5 this season) while Müller is in joint 5th place with 151 appearances (+9 this season); meanwhile, Toni Kroos (Real Madrid) tied Thomas Müller for the most Champions League match appearances by a German player (151 appearances) and he is currently tied for 5th place for the most overall appearances
- Ángel Di María (Benfica) climbed up in the rankings of the most assists ever, +1 this season and 36 in total, being in 4th joint place with David Beckham
- Pepe (Porto) broke Francesco Totti’s (AS Roma) record for the oldest player to score in the Champions League (scoring against Shakhtar Donetsk in December 2023) – Totti was 38, Pepe 40
- Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) broke the record of Celestine Babayaro (Anderlecht) for the youngest player to start a match in the Champions League – he was 16 years and 83 days old in the October 2023 game against Porto
- Ivan Provedel (Lazio) became only the second player after Sinan Bolat (Standar Liége) ever to score a goal in open play (he scored against Atlético Madrid in September 2023)
- Marko Arnautović (Inter Milan) set the record for the longest span between goals, scoring last in 2010 for Werder Bremen and then in November 2023, making it nearly 13 years in between
- Omri Glazer (Red Star Belgrade) tied the record of Matús Kozácik for the most saves in a single game – Glazer’s record is 13 saves against Manchester City, Kozácik’s was 13 for Viktoria Plzen against Bayern München in 2013
NATIONS & CITIES
- Germany extended its record for the most clubs appearing in the Champions League since its inception – Union Berlin’s 2023-24 debut made it the 15th German club to play in the Champions League
- Spain extended its record for providing the most clubs to the competition in one season the most times – 2023-24 was the 4th occasion of 5 clubs playing in the Champions League and its qualifying stages: Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Sevilla
- London extended its record for the most times hosting the finals of the Champions League – 2023-24 final was their 7th time hosting Champions League or the European Cup
- 2023-24 season marks the third season in 4 years where 4 managers from the same nation reached the quarter-finals – this year it was Spain, preceded by Italy and Germany.
