South Africa and Australia have become the first two teams to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Proteas’ journey started with a win against Sri Lanka, followed by win over the Netherlands and Bangladesh. Rain washed out the match between Nepal and Sri Lanka, that confirmed South Africa’s place in super eights.
Australia qualified after a dominant performance against Namibia. Adam Zampa took 4 wickets for 12 runs, contributing in bowling Namibia out for just 72 runs. In reply, Australia chased it down easily, with David Warner and Mitchell Marsh leading the batting.
Other teams are still battling in the group stage, hoping to qualify in the Super 8. As the group stage progresses, we will be seeing more teams qualifying for the Super 8.
The Super 8 stage is critical because it narrows down the competition to the best teams.
South Africa lead Group D with a perfect six points in three matches, while Bangladesh and the Netherlands have two points each from two games.
