Marumo Gallants confirmed on Thursday that they have acquired the status of Moroka Swallows with the permission of the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
A statement from Gallants on Thursday said the Premier Soccer League had approved the sale of Swallows to the Limpopo-based club.
“Following the final approval of the Premier Soccer League, (PSL) today, Marumo Gallants Football Club officially confirms the acquisition of Moroka Swallows Football Club. Gallants will take over Swallows with immediate effect.”
“Gallants will provide more details of plans once staff, technical teams and players have been addressed. At this stage the club will not be issuing further comments or taking interviews – a date will be communicated for a press briefing that will take place shortly,” it added.
Gallants will now take Swallows’ place in the top flight after they came close to being relegated for a second successive season.
They started in 2021 when Polokwane-based businessman Abram Sello bought the franchise of Tshakhuma Tsa Madzivhandila, who in turn had bought the status of Bidvest Wits in 2020 for a place among the elite.
Gallants will now feature in the top flight, with home games set to be played in Bloemfontein. It is unclear what will happens Gallants National First Division (NFD) franchise.
