Self proclaimed King of Kwaito Arthur Mafokate says he believes that a court of law will not find him guilty of any crimes.
Mafokate said, yes, It’s true, there’s an undesirable situation that law enforcement officers are attending to, and some of my assets are temporarily being attached due to that unfortunate incident. At this stage, I can’t say more than that, ” Mafokate said.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has obtained a preservation order from the High Court in Pretoria to freeze three luxury properties linked to fraud at the National Lotteries Commission.
SIU said five non-profit organisations received funding of approximately R56 million for community development projects.
One of the organisations, South African Art and Development Association is linked to Mafokate, and applied for grant funding to assist unemployed youth in the poor and rural areas.
“What I can say right now is that in time, people will know the truth about my so-called alleged misconduct, and some of you will be shocked when you find out who is behind everything, added Mafokate.”
The properties include Mafokate’s luxury property in Midrand, as well as a Cape Town property belonging to former National Lotteries Commission legal representative Lesley Ramulifho.
Former Lotto boss Alfred Nevhutanda’s plot in Pretoria, former NLC board member William Huma’s farm in Rustenburg and NLC legal division head Tsietsi Maselwa’s luxury property in Pretoria.
“The SIU investigations revealed that the acquisition of the preserved properties was funded by the NPOs with money they had received, under the auspices of grant funding, from the NLC,” says SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.
“The properties, therefore, constitute proceeds of unlawful activities hence the application for a preservation order pending the final determination of the application for final forfeiture.”
Last year the SIU also obtained a preservation order for properties linked to renowned actress Terry Pheto and former national lotteries executives.
