Condolences for the late African Christian Democratic Party’s (ACDP) cofounder and first lady Dr Lydia Meshoe are slowly trickling in as news of her death spreads.
The African Christian Democratic Party’s (ACDP) announced Dr Meshoe’s passing on Wednesday afternoon.
While the cause of death is not known, the party said funeral announcements would be made in due course.
President Cyril Ramaphosa joined the list of those have expressed condolences on the passing of Dr Lydia Meshoe, wife of ACDP President, Reverend Kenneth Meshoe.
Ramaphosa said his thoughts and prayers go out to Reverend Meshoe and his family, friends and associates of Dr Meshoe, and the membership of the ACDP.
“We join the Meshoe family and the African Christian Democratic Party in mourning the loss of a leader who was in the prime of her service to the communities and structures in which she realised her own destiny.
“May her soul rest in peace, as we reflect on her life which, guided by her deep spiritual faith, she dedicated to the empowerment of women and the improvement of socio-economic conditions in various communities,” Ramaphosa said.
The Economic Freedom Fighters described Dr Meshoe as “a woman of strong faith and conviction, who spent a large part of her life in service of the people of South Africa through her political party.”
“Her passing has brought pain not only to her political party, but also leaves a void in a country desperate for ethical leadership. The EFF sends its condolences to the ACDP and to Reverend Kenneth Moshoe on the passing of an anchor and pillar of strength in his life,” said the EFF.
