Veteran thespian Patrick Ndlovu has died at the age of 85. Ndlovu’s management, Moonyeenn Lee Associates, confirmed the news in a statement.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor Patrick Ndlovu, whose acting career spanned more than four decades. We were proud to represent such a consummate professional and majestic talent.
“He was a kind and gentle man, always ready with a smile even when times were tough. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, family and friends. We will miss you, Patrick. RIP,” the statement read.
Ndlovu was popularly known for his many TV roles, including Sizwe Moloi on the SABC1 drama series Zone 14 and as school principal, Mr Thembu, on the popular TV series, Yizo Yizo.
He was born in Mohlakeng, outside Randfontein on the West Rand. His first love was not acting as he was a teen jazz musician.
Ndlovu’s passing comes as the entertainment industry is reeling from the sad news of Marietjie Bothma, the iconic TV personality, radio broadcaster, and comedian, who died on Monday, May 29, after a long illness.
Bothma was hailed as lively and enjoyable by many. There’s no disputing that the vibrant personality will be missed by South Africans from all walks of life.
She won the hearts of many with her fluency in Zulu and other South African languages, and she won the hearts of the nation when she starred in a pie commercial.
