DA announces Alan Winde as Western Cape premier candidate for 2024.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen has announced incumbent, Alan Winde, as the Western Cape Premier candidate for the 2024 general elections.

Steenhuisen made the announcement on Saturday in Athlone, Cape Town.

Winde has been the premier of the Western Cape since 2019.

Taking to the podium to address DA members in the province, Winde said he was honoured by his party’s nomination.

He said the DA is the party to vote for as it has shown that it can get things done.

Steenhuisen also used the occasion to fire some shots at other parties in the country.

He said the ANC and other parties are trying to pull support for the DA in the province below 50%.

“Parties like the Patriotic Alliance (PA), Good, Al Jama-Ah, COPE and the NCC are nothing but glorified ANC branches.

“These parties are the ANC in drag.”

Steenhuisen also repeated his warning of a “doomsday coalition” involving the ANC, EFF and PA.

“We cannot allow this gang of losers to take us for fools in the Western Cape.”

Recently, the DA formed the Multi-Party Charter for South Africa with the IFP, ActionSA, FF Plus, Isanco, UIM, and Spectrum National Party. The aim is to establish a coalition government following next year’s elections.

This “moonshot pact” would most likely need the support of another party to push it beyond 50% to form a national government, and ActionSA has mooted the PA joining the pact.
