Saturday 26 August saw over 1,000 women converge on The Forum in Bryanston for a day of transformative conversations and inspiration. The EmpowaWomen Leadership Summit kicked off with an intimate chat with Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, former Deputy President before the audience broke away to different industries stages.
The programme was jam-packed with over 37 panel discussions across the ten different stages that focussed on Property, Mining, Energy, Health & Wellness, Finance, Manufacturing, Transport, Communication, Advertising & Marketing, Media, Agriculture and Entrepreneurship.
Each of the over 150 speakers were experts in their fields and all talks and discussions were geared around igniting passion, fostering growth and driving change, the overriding theme of the summit.
By highlighting not just the need for equality, but also recognising the beautiful differences between genders and what women really bring to the table in decision-making and leadership, the Summit was able to encourage women to stand up and be heard, to connect and collaborate and do what it takes to ensure all women are given the opportunity to lead.
By addressing the specific challenges faced by women in diverse industries, the EmpowaWomen Leadership Summit sought to foster a collective determination towards creating a more inclusive and equitable future. Focussing on women in leadership positions and those aspiring to lead within typically male-dominated industries, the Summit attracted 1,500 women from around the country that desire to be part of fundamentally transforming leadership in South Africa.
Spokesperson for the EmpowaWomen Leadership Summit, Zazini Molo, says, “We were overwhelmed by the positive response. The conversations and talks all sparked incredible ideas and we know that there will be collaborations moving forward that will lead to a truly transformed landscape for women leaders. The powerful networking and connections between speakers and delegates was heart-warming. We are already looking forward to next year’s Summit and know that in the intervening months, transformation will take place.”
The sheer number of speakers was incredible to see, and delegates were all inspired and excited about what can be done when women stand together. Leading up to the Summit next year, EmpowaWomen will be producing smaller, industry focussed summits, so keep watching the media for news and information, so that you can be part of this transformative movement for positive change.
