The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane is going to open criminal case against the EFF following a scuffle between members of the two parties during a council meeting.
Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has accused the red berets of engaging in act of violence and criminality.
The DA’s Tshwane caucus spokesperson Kwena Moloto said they believe the EFF’s behaviour in council was unacceptable.
“DA councillors were assaulted and hit with projectiles thrown by EFF councillors. This is an unacceptable display of behaviour from the EFF, who have once again proven that they have little regard for our democratic institutions”.
The EFF in Tshwane is demanding the reinstatement of more than 100 South African Municipal Workers Union members who were fired for participating in an unprotected strike.
But Moloto said EFF’s call for the reinstatement of municipal workers is an endorsement of violence.
“Their violent behaviour today has confirmed that violence is at the core of who the EFF are, “he added.
Despite the end to the month-long illegal strike in Tshwane by South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) members, the city still seemed to be on a go-show as many services have not yet been restored.
