World number 1 Jannik Sinner wins in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (3) over Novak Djokovic to advance to his first French Open final.
Playing his first Grand Slam tournament since serving a three-month anti-doping suspension, Sinner roared into his first Roland Garros final, conquering the 24-time Grand Slam champion in three hours and 16 minutes on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Djokovic, 38, looked emotional as he puts his racquet bags down and waved farewell to an adoring crowd.
Earlier defending champion Carlos Alcaraz moved into his second successive Roland Garros final after eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti retired injured in the fourth set of their semi-final earlier on Friday.
Sinner and Alcaraz will now face off in a rematch of their 2024 semifinal, which Alcaraz won in five sets last year.
Sinner is aiming for his fourth major title, Alcaraz his fifth.
Djokovic fought back in the third set but wilted in the tiebreaker, somehow missing an easy smash at the net to trail 3-0 and then lost on the second match point he faced when his forehand hit the net.
“These are rare and special moments,” Sinner said. “I’m very happy.”
He extended his winning streak in Grand Slam tournaments to 20 matches, after winning the US Open and the Australian Open.
