Cape Town City failed to take advantage of their home match as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Orbit College at the Cape Town Stadium on Staurday afternoon.
The draw saw the Citizens begin their playoffs campaign with a draw after they failed to capitalise on their home ground advantage. The Western Cape side will now travel to Mpumalanga, where they will face Casric Stars on June 18.
Mswenko Boys, on the other hand, climbed to the top of the standings, having picked up two points from their first two games in the playoffs. The North West outfit will also be away to Casric Stars in their next game, which is scheduled for June 21.
The Citizens controlled the match from the start, with Haashim Domingo pulling the strings from midfield. The former Mamelodi Sundowns star set up Jody Ah Shene, who was superbly denied by goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane at the near-post in the 24th minute.
Moerane was the busier of the two keepers as the Lesotho international was called into action in the 40th minute and this time he gathered an attempt from Prins Tjiueza. The score was 0-0 during the halftime break following a half that was dominated by City without scoring.
The hosts made a double substitution before the second-half as Emile Witbooi and Thulani Serero came on for Ah Shene and Luyolo Slatsha. Witbooi came close to breaking the deadlock in the 52nd minute as the 16-year-old sensation’s effort hit the crossbar.
The last real chance of the match fell for substitute Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout, whose effort was brilliantly saved by in-form Moerane in the 88th minute and the big save ensured that the match, which was dominated by City, ended in a 0-0 draw on the day.
