For the first time in African sporting history, Johannesburg is preparing to host a spectacle unlike any seen before. From 15 to 17 August 2025, the DP World Wanderers Stadium will be transformed into a world-class padel arena for the 360 Padel | Gayle – South African Invitational.
This landmark event welcomes the top-ranked global players of one of the world’s fastest-growing sports to South African soil.
The tournament’s headliners include reigning world number one duo Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, whose recent title in Valladolid pushed them past the former kings of padel, Ale Galán and Juan Lebrón, in total career titles. Coello and Tapia now boast 34 titles together and are on track to challenge the all-time greats.
What makes the 360 Padel | Gayle Invitational exceptional is its unique team format. Twelve elite players will split into Team Galán and Team Lebrón, captained by the former partners themselves. Each day of the event features three pulse-pounding matches, with point values escalating from Friday through Sunday. The team with the highest score by the end of the final match will be crowned champions.
Friday: Galán vs Lebrón – A rivalry reignited under the Johannesburg lights.
Saturday: Coello vs Tapia – Teammates turned competitors for one night only.
Sunday: Galán & Coello vs Tapia & Lebrón – A dream showdown to close the curtain.
Padel, a dynamic mix of tennis and squash played in doubles on an enclosed court, has taken Europe and Latin America by storm. Now, with the launch of this flagship African event, South African fans have the rare chance to experience its drama and finesse up close.
“This isn’t just a tournament — it’s a celebration of padel’s arrival on the African mainstage,” said Sarfraz Bismilla, spokesperson for the South African Invitational. “We’re bringing global stars to one of the country’s most iconic venues and delivering an experience that will resonate far beyond the sport.”
With 18 points up for grabs and pride on the line, this Invitational promises not just top-tier competition but a momentous chapter in padel’s global story. Tickets are now available at www.ticketpro.co.za. Don’t miss your chance to witness the world’s finest in a once-in-a-generation African debut.
