Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) says domestic operations had been stabilised and steady improvements have been made in passenger flow and queue management at OR Tambo International Airport.
ACSA said that “operational issues” have led to travel delays for passengers at the airport.
While no detail was given about the disruption, local airlines reported long queues and logjams at security checkpoints at the airport.
It said that its technical teams were working to resolve the issues and full operational capacity is anticipated to be restored by Wednesday morning.
ACSA reassures the public that these disruptions are isolated to O.R. Tambo International Airport. All other airports within the ACSA network are currently operating without issues.

Meanwhile Raps K9 Law Enforcement is accusing ACSA of unfairly excluding it from a key aviation security tender and alleges that there are risks to national security at South African airports.
ACSA awarded Bidvest Protea Coin a short-term bid via a restricted tender despite claims that the bidders lacked qualifications.
ACSA operates South Africa’s nine major airports, including OR Tambo International, Cape Town International, and King Shaka International.
