SA Police Services (SAPS) in Gauteng launched a manhunt for at least ten armed me after a deadly mass shooting at a tavern in Olievenhoutbosch, south-west of Pretoria.
At least five people — two women and three men — were gunned down at the Shoba informal settlement on Friday night, while three others were wounded.
The shooting happened around 22:30 when the suspects stormed into the tavern and opened fire.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the motive for the shooting was still unknown.
“It is reported that the suspects came to a tavern and started shooting randomly, without saying a word. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage. The police have opened a case of murder and attempted murder for investigation,” said Masondo.
Police have appealed to the public for assistance in tracking down the suspects.
Meanwhile the multidisciplinary team, deployed under Operation Vala Umgodi, arrested 3 suspects, aged between 18 and 36.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Pilgrim’s Rest Periodical Court soon, after being nabbed for contravention of the Immigration Act and Illegal mining.
