The case against the man accused of the murder of City of Ekurhuleni municipality senior auditor Mpho Mafole has been postponed to August 15.
Goodwill Thabani NtshaliNtshali will be remanded in custody.
The 47-year-old auditor was gunned down in a hail of bullets on the R23 near Esselen Park in Kempton Park on 30 June 2025.
Fullview learnt that Mafole’s death was a hit, linked to his investigation into a massive R2 billion electricity scandal.
The scandal involved tampered electricity accounts, with some accounts paying drastically reduced rates for electricity, while others were absent from the system, evidently showing that the municipality was being short-changed.
The court heard that the 40-year-old man was out on bail for a separate murder trial at the same court, where he was released on R5,000 bail.
During proceedings, it emerged that Ntshalintshali has another pending murder case.
The bail hearing in that separate matter has been concluded, and the trial is set to commence on August 12, continuing on August 19.
State prosecutor Lynette Lamden told the Kempton Park magistrate’s court that the trial in the murder of Mfihlo is set to begin on August 12.
Lamden said the state would oppose bail in the Mafole matter.
“We requested a postponement for further investigation as well as possible bail hearing. We have already informed the court we will be opposing bail and provisionally cited our reasons.
“Amongst others is that he has a pending case of murder, making this [Mafole case] a second one. The charges he is facing fall under schedule 6. [They are] serious charges.”
Police are still searching for the second suspect, Hlanganani Mncwango, who is linked to Mafole’s murder.
Mafole had only joined Ekurhuleni in April 2025 as the group divisional head for corporate and forensic audits, after spending about 15 years at the Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA).
