Blitzboks down USA, face Argentina for 5th place in Hong Kong.

The Springbok Sevens team will play for fifth place at the Hong Kong Sevens after they bowed out earlier in the quarterfinals.

The Blitzboks lost narrowly to Fiji 10-7 in their early morning quartfinal but then went on to beat USA 38-7 in the fifth place semifinal.

And while it isn’t the result they wanted they will pick up some valuable points if they win their fifth place playoff against Argentina, set to kick off at 11.55am.

The Blitzboks lie seventh on the standings and with three tournaments left after this one they want to get into the top four in order to try and qualify for the Olynpics automatically.

Shaun Williams scored early against Fiji but a late try sank a brave Blitzboks performance.

A brace of tries by Christie Grobbelaar was complemented by scores by Tiaan Pretorius, Ethan James and Sebastian Jobb as the Blitzboks tore the USA challenge apart.

But while it was a better overall performance, the side still lost both its big games against Fiji and the All Blacks, underlining the fact that they still have work to do.
