Despite the win, the Team of Choice remained in the relegation playoff spot (15th) on the league standings and they will be looking to make it two wins in a row when they take on SuperSport United away on April 7.
The Rockets, on the other hand, remained on the seventh spot on the standings after their five-match unbeaten run in the competition came to an end and they are set to face Sekhukhune United away on April 8.
The Team of Choice got off to the perfect start as they broke the deadlock just two minutes into the game with Friday Samu setting-up Jose Ali Meza who scored with a beautiful curling shot to make it 1-0 to Maritzburg.
The Rockets then fought back and they managed to level matters through Bernard Parker who netted with a deflected strike to make it 1-1 in the 22nd minute with Kamogelo Sebelebele priovding the assist.
However, the visitors were awarded a penalty after Tshegofatso Nyama was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box on the stroke of half-time. Amadou Soukouna converted the resultant penalty to hand Maritzburg a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
The hosts pushed for the equalising goal after the restart, but the Team of Choice’s defence looked solid and compact which led to Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic deciding to introduce the speedy Lindokuhle Mbatha in the 66th minute.
Both teams searched for a late goal as Orebotse Mongae was denied by goalkeeper King Ndlovu in the 83rd minute and six minutes later at the other end, keeper Vasilije Kolak gathered Meza’s header to ensure that the game ended in a 2-1 win in favour of Maritzburg.
