Five people killed in collision in Bergville, Kwazulu-Natal.

Five people, including a child, were killed in a horrific car crash in the early hours of Sunday on Rookdale Road in Bergville in Kwazulu-Natal (KZN).

Fullview understands the crash left one of the vehicles engulfed in flames, with one victim burned beyond recognition.

Search and rescue teams, along with firefighters, were dispatched to the scene. 

The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, has extended condolences and pledged government support to the bereaved families.

“We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, “Duma said.

“I have sent a team from my office and the department to ensure that they locate the families of the victims of this horrific accident.”

He added that the department will work closely with affected families in the coming days.

“Importantly, our focus is to ease the burden on their shoulders. We work with them to co-ordinate the funeral,” Duma said.

Last week five people were killed in a motor vehicle accident on the R66 near Nyezane in Gingindlovu on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast after two vehicles collided head-on Sunday night.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Ford Ranger lost control and collided head-on with the Hyundai Grand i10.Duma also extended the deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
