Former Kaizer Chiefs and Royal AM striker Samir Nurkovic has joined Mpumalanga based side TS Galaxy.
On Monday evening, Galaxy unveiled the Serbian striker after he had already been training with the club.
“We welcome Samir Nurkovic to the Rockets family. Nurkovic has signed until May 2024 with the option to extend his contract at the end of the season,” the club said in a statement.
Nurkovic is embroiled in a dispute with Royal AM in which the KwaZulu Natal outfit is meant to pay him.
After being dismissed by Royal AM in October 2022, just two months into his two-year contract, the Serbian striker reported the club to FIFA.
AM argued that they had the right to terminate his contract because he had been on sick leave for long.
However, FIFA ruled in his favour, ordering the club to pay Nurkovic in the region of R12 million, which includes his salary for the entire contract, his representatives’ fees, and interest on the delayed payment.
Nurkovic was not paid a cent in the first three months of joining Thwihli Thwahla until he was given a bizarre 30-day notice to leave the club last year.
It was expected the FIFA case would drag, but surprisingly the tribunal came out with a verdict a lot sooner and have already instructed Royal to make payment or face further sanctions.
