Brazilian World Cup-winner Ronaldo tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, forcing him to cancel his appearance at celebrations for the 101st anniversary of his first-ever team, Cruzeiro, the club said.
The Brazilian former striker retired in 2011 and is now at the helm of two major clubs, Cruzeiro in Brazil and Real Valladolid in Spain.
It was Cruzeiro who announced in a statement that Ronaldo would not be participating in events marking the 101st anniversary of the club’s foundation because he had tested positive for COVID-19.
The 45-year-old is suffering from mild symptoms and has been ordered by doctors to rest and self-isolate.
Ronaldo played in Serie A for Inter from 1997 to 2002, then returned to San Siro for their arch-rivals Milan from January 2007 to July 2008.
His other clubs include Cruzeiro, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Corinthians.
Ronaldo scored 58 goals in 88 Serie A appearances, along with 13 assists, but his career was railroaded by several devastating knee injuries.
Ronaldo was also in Brazil’s 1994 World Cup-winning squad and scored eight goals in seven matches when the Selecao won the title again in 2002.
