Defending champions FC Bayern München face arguably the biggest test yet to their incredible 100 percent record this season when they visit fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday evening.
Five wins from five have seen Bayern rocket out of the traps. No side has been able to keep pace with their 22 goals as they’ve made the best start by any team in Bundesliga history, but Frankfurt boast the second-most strikes with 17.
The Eagles’ remarkable 6-4 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend adds to the expectation the goals might fly during the big Matchday 6 encounter. Star striker Harry Kane struck his 100th goal for Bayern in just his 104th competitive appearance in the 4-0 win over SV Werder Bremen on Matchday 5.
Frankfurt have a rising star in their own ranks though. Their 19-year-old playmaker Can Uzun is enjoying a revelatory campaign, becoming the first Eintracht player ever to score on each of the first five matchdays to sit second in the scoring charts behind Kane, who is on 10 – unprecedented at this stage of the season.
Borussia Dortmund will hope to apply pressure on Bayern by taking top spot from them for the time being earlier on Saturday with a win at home to third-placed RB Leipzig. Both sides go into that big showdown in seriously impressive league form, with four wins in succession.
Dortmund have not conceded a single goal in their last four Bundesliga matches either, as the strong reign of Niko Kovač shows even more promise. His team are unbeaten in their last 13 Bundesliga fixtures, while nobody can boast a better points-per-game average in the BVB dugout in the Bundesliga than Kovač currently.
With the two clashes among the top four, the sides in fifth and sixth, VfB Stuttgart and Bayer 04 Leverkusen respectively, will hope to be able to make up ground on the Bundesliga’s leading pack. Leverkusen welcome 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon, while Stuttgart host an 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 side fresh from their first win of the season on Sunday.
Leverkusen have won two and drawn one in the league under new coach Kasper Hjulmand, while DFB Cup holders Stuttgart have started to click, with their victory over 1. FC Köln their third in a row in all competitions.
The final encounter of Matchday 6 on Sunday evening will also attract plenty of attention. Gladbach host SC Freiburg hoping to improve after collapsing to 6-0 down within 47 minutes at home to Frankfurt. The Foals need to win to avoid setting an unwanted club record of 13 Bundesliga matches without a victory and perhaps move off the foot of the table.
